The underwriter's receive 72 percent of the Tasmanian loan. Nehemiah Curnock, editor of the ‘Methodist Recorder,’ has discovered and deciphered in Wesley’s last account book a shorthand dial y of the last decade of his life. COLONIAL LOANS. London, January 8. The Tasmanian loan is quoted at a. quarter per cent, discount. The ‘Chronicle’ is surprised at the result of so attractive an issue, which has greatly modified its views regarding the prospects of loans in the near future. The ‘Daily Mail’ says that the failure is an evidence that the public nowadays is satisfied with nothing below 5 per cent. Nine colonial loans have been floated since November, only two being fully subscribed. Both were offei’ed at 5 per cent. PINNED UNDER A MOTOR. Calcutta, January 7. Two Bengali jute brokers while motoring endeavoured to avoid a buffalo, and the car fell into a ditch. Both were pinned under, and burned to death. ROBBERY OF £SOOO. Berlin, January 8. The Messageries Maritimtes Company are advised that the mail steam or Salazie, voyaging from Tamatave to Marseilles, was disabled in a cyclone and drifted on to a reef at Diego Saurez.
