Efforts to find the body cf thejoung man Hatchard, who was drowned at Sumner early yesterday morning, have so far failed, and there are at the present time uurecovered the bodies of the victims of three drowning tragedies at Sumner during the past Week. A DROWNING FATALITY. Auckland, January 6. Advice was received to-day by the police from .Mercer that a lad named Frederick Clcphano was drowned in the Waikato River on Sunday. Deceased and a companion were on the river in a canoe, and owing to the craft capsizing, they were precipitated into the water. Clepbane’s companion succeeded in swimming ashore. Deceased was only just learning to swim, and sank after swimming about ten or twelve yards. The body was recovered about an hour afterwards. Clepliane was IS years old. His parents are very well known residents of Churchill. SAD CIRCUMSTANCES. , Wellington, January 7. At the inquest at Waikanao yesterday into the circumstances attending the death of Dorothy Campion, the evidence showed that her brother picked up the gun, not knowing it was loaded, and it exploded. The charge entered the girl’s chest. The boy had not ecen put the gun to his shoulder, although he pulled the trigger. A verdict of “Accidental Death” was returned, no blame being attachable to anyone.
