AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Hastings, December 3Q. The Australasian Tennis Championships were continued at Hastings ltdday. The weather wag perfect, -and there was a large attendance of,people to see the noted English Five hundred new seats had to be provided, and the meeting was a record for New Zealand. Grand play was witnessed throughout the day. Results: Beamish (England) beat Fisher (New Zealand), 6-2, 6—l, 7—5. Dixon and Parke (England) beat Olliver and Goss (New Zealand), '7—s, 6—3, 4—6, 6—1.. Ollivier beat Peacock, 6—o, 6—B, 6—3. Goss beat Dixon, 7—5, 6—2, 13—11. Well wood and Waddington lost to Beamish and Lowe, 6—o ft- 0 n —o. The semi-finals will be played tomorrow, and the finals on Wednesday morning. In the final of the Ladies’ Doubles, New Zealand Championships, Misses Gray and Travers beat Miss R. Well* woed and Mrs. Maddison, The final of the Combined Doubles New Zealaiid Championship will be played this afternoon. Hastings, December 31. The tennis meeting was confined today in fine weather. A good attendance was again recorded. In the continuation of the Australian Championship, Swanskin beat Pearce 6—l, 6—2, 6—2. The following team has been selected by Mr Gore to meet the F"d!sHmen at Christchurch: Messrs OUlvior, Fisher, Swanston and Peacock; firet emergency, Goss; second, Brbwn.
