WRECK OF A DANISH STEAMER

The hatches of the Danish steamer Volomer were stove in, and she foundered on Christmas Day. A sailor going mad, , jumped into the sea. , , . Tn» first boat was smashed alongside, and all the occupants" were drowned. A second boat capsized, birt the survivors righted it. The engineer died, and the chief officer went mad and attempted tc throttle the captain, and then died. Fifteen perished. A trawler bravely rescued the cap tain and a sailor from a swamped boat. The Volmer, when 25 miles southward of the ScillieSj was struck by a tremendous sea, which swept the vessel, ripping off the bulwarks. , H poured in torrents into the holds and engine-room, and quenched the fires. The vessel was turned up the Channel, and drifted five hours before she sank. The survivors experienced a terrible thunderstorm all night. Two steamer© passed without seeing the boat, which was earless and without fresh water. The men died one bj one. A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. London, December 30. A wave eighty feet high damaged the whole of the upper- structure ol the Beacon Grange. The engineers and firemen worked waist deep in water.
