MOTOR CAR COMMANDEERED..
(Per Press Association.) Timaru, December 27. There was a motor accident last night which resulted_ in a young woman named Crisp being taken to the hospital suffering from shock. It appears that a young man, without authority, asked three domestics at Werrys’ Hotel, to have a ride in car Avhich the owner had left standing outside Worry’s. He had gone about a mil© and was rounding the bay on the main road when he cap sized the car. Ho has not been seer since and it is rumoured that he bolted in distress over the accident am threw himself into the sea. It if understood that none of the girls were seriously hurt. THE DEFENCE FORCE. Wellington, December 27. The following camps have been fixed by the Defence Department:— Mounted Rifles Brigade (less a squadron of the Qth), Wellington and Coast Mounted Rifles, No. 8 Mounter Field Ambulance, May 5 to 17, a' Oringi. Field Artillery Brigade March 7 to 15, at Oringi; No. 4 Company Field Engineers Infantry Bri gade, April 14 to 26. at Oringi; Ocas' 1 Defence Troops, February 14 to 22 at the Forts; A Squadron 9th (Wei lington and East Coast) Mounter Rifles, March 13 to 25, at Gisborne: Dominion Rifle Association, February 27 to March 8, at Trentham. THE Y.M.C.A. Christchurch, December 27. Mr E. R. Peacock, chairman of the Australian and New Zealand National Committee of Young Men’s Christian Associations, in an interview, referred to the national convention of New Zealand Young Men’s Christian Associations to-be held at Sumner from January 2to 6. He stated it would be the first of its kind held in Nev Zealand, and would be attended br about 50 delegates, representing as sociations in tbe Dominion from Auckland to Invercargill. Amongst other matters to be discussed will hr the relation of the associations to churches, the co-operation of associa lions with churches in Christian sociological work. AN UNDESIRABLE CHARACTER. Wanganui, December 28. Yesterday afternoon, as a young lady was walking up St. John’s Hill, n man used insulting language to her. He subsequently decoyed a girl about eight years of age into a reserve, but, fortunately, serious crime was prevented by several ladies appearing on the scene. They threatened to horsewhip the man, Avho decamped. The police have not traced him.
