FIRES.

On Saturday night Butterworth’s stables at Opunake were destroyed by fire. They were insured in the Phoenix Office for £250.

RACEHORSE BURNED TO DEATH

Hastings, December 24

The training stables and whare occupied by Leslie Garrick, trainer for Rangi Kerehona, was destroyed by fire last evening. Four horses in looseboxes were let out, but a two-year-old, Bungeebah, Stronghold—The Brat, ran back into the burning building, and was burned to death. The contents of the whare and a considerable amount of feed were lost. There was no insurance on the horse or building. The cause of the fire is unknown.
