THE WHAU CANAL.

Auckland, December 22. It is probable that a Bill will he introduced into Parliament next session giving power to the Auckland Harbour Board to undertake the construction of the Whau Canal, connecting Waitemata and Manukau harbours. The promoters have Mr. Massey’s verbal assurance that the scheme will receive bis personal support. If the Bill is carried it is probable that the work will be completed within four years from the present time.

Mr. Simpson, Official Assignee, referring yesterday to the case of the business of Xorrow and Co., which has been placed in his hands for liouidation, said it was the worst case of the kind lie had. ever known. Francis Howe was the only member of the firm who attended. The creditors were mainly jewellers. Xorrow and Co. advertised goods for sale on deposit, and it was alleged that, although in many eases money was sent, goods were not forwarded, and in those instances where goods were forwarded they were not worth the money paid. It was also alleged that all the money had been drawn from the bank without the purchase by the firm of goods being completed. The meeting closed after the Assignee had undertaken to consult a solicitor. The Assignc told Ho,vo that if he attempted to leave the Dominion it would be at bis own risk.
