The police raided a mansion near Belgrave Square, and arrested twenty persons of good social position. It is stated that a prominent lady lost £28,000 at baccarat.
Berlin, December 17
Wolferling, of the headquarters’ staff at Thorn, has been arrested for supplying important information to Russia.

Wolferling was sentenced to fifteen years’ imprisonment, and fined £750 for high treason, and the £3750 which he received from Russia was confiscated.
(Received 8.0 a.m.) Capetown, December 17. Owing to the grounding cf the Tasmania, the steamer will be docked at Durban for repairs, which will take a month.
Rome, December 17
Twenty-five were killed and one hundred injured in the railway smash al Catania. A number were pinned under the wreckage for four hours, and bogged to be killed. The dead were terribly mutilated.
