MODERN GRACE DARLING.
A LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER AND HIS BRAVE DAUGHTER. Fremantle, December 15. A heroic and successful struggle by a girl to rescue her father from diowning is reported from Rottnest Island. Waters, the light-keeper at Bathurst Point lighthouse, and his daughter, aged eighteen, were fishing when the dinghy upset in the breakers in a narrow passage.
Waters was unable to swim. . His daughter was a powerful swimmer. Time after time the pair were washed from the upturned boat. The girl each time brought her father back. Several times the boat overturned on top of the man, and the girl dived under and dragged him cut. She struggled for an hour, till help was forthcoming.
