THE WAIHI TRAGEDY.
THE INQUEST ON EVANS. (Per Press Association.) Waihi, December 12. The adjourned enquiry into the circumstances connected with the death of Frederick George Evans, who died as the result of injuries received during the disturbances between the workers and strikers at Waihi on November 12, was resumed to-day before Mr. Wallnutt, Coroner. Mr. J. 11. London appeared for the relatives of the deceased, and Mr. Selwyn Mays on behalf of the Crown. Mrs. Cottie, one of the women in the hall when the shefoting commenced, stated that she had a clear view of Evans from tho time he left the back of the hall. She saw no weapon in his hand, and heard no report excepting the shots inside the hall. She saw Evans struck down by the constable, and a crowd afterwards gathered round and assaulted him in an attempt to lynch him. If other witnesses stated differently they would be wrong. The inquest is pro-, ceeding.
