A sensational incident marked the running of the drench Gold Cup at M aisons-Lafitte to-day. The event was won by Mr. Monbel’s Bourbon Rose, which, however, was disqualified on the ground that it had been “doped.” The owner declares that no stimulant was given to the horse, and has already initiated legal proceedings for the recovery of heavy damages. Several winders were disqualified in France last week for alleged doping.
RANGITIKEI RACING CU B. (Per Press Association.) , Bulls, December 12. The second day of the Rangitikci races was held in beautiful weather. The course was hard and fast, and the attendance good. The totalisator turnover for the two days was £21,109, against £14,819 for the last New Year meeting. Results:— Rangitoto Hack.—Manukau 1, Elccto 2, Glenfern 3. Scratched: Expect, Patronale, Hamurana, and Heather. Won easily by two lengths. Time Imin 15sec.
The Clifton Handicap.—Mon Ami 1, Rangitua 2, Dearest 3. Red Lupin also ran. Won easily by two lengths. Time, Imin 28 2-osec. Sandon Hurdles.—Chief Marshall 1, Sleacombe 2, Waiaio 3. Scratched: Waterworks. Won by a length. Time, 2inin 51 2-ssec. Xgatiapa Hack Hurdles, of 95 sovs; one mile and a half.—Flingot, 10.13, 1; Whimper, 9.3, 2; Sunrose, 9.0, 3. Moahau 10.5, St. Felix 9.0, Trekker 9.0, and Chief Officer 9.0, also started. Won by a neck, with Sunrose half a length away third. Time, 2rnin 1 2-ssec. Greatford Stakes, of 175 sovs; one mile and a distance.— Mendip, 8.3, 1; Bonnie Boy, 7.8, 2; Labour Day, 8.2, 3. Master Laddo 7.10, Ngatimaru 7.10, Royal Marine 7.3, Waipaku 7.3, Goodwin Park 7.1, Otahu 7.1, and Aloha 6.11, also started.' Won by half a length, with Labour Day third half a length away. Won by a short length. Time, Imin 42 2-ssec. Raumai Welter, of ICO sovs; seven furlongs.—Rill, 9.8, 1 ; Muleteer, 8.0, 2; Ascalon, 8.1, 3. Kanhoa 8.2, Allure 8.0, Sepoy 8.0, and Whetumamma 8.0, also started. Won by a long neck, with the third horse a length away. Time, Imin 28 2-ssec. Pukehou Scurry, of 80 sovs; five furlongs.—Patronale, 8.10, 1; Heather, 7.0, 2; War Queen, 8.5, 3. Hamuranu 7.11, Lord Lupin 7.2, Hapingo 7.0, Fionarca 7.0, The Diver 7.0, Tarnakua 7.0, and Ruapuhi 7.0 also started. Won by a good length. Time, Imin II sec.
