PAHIATUA v. EKETAHUNA.

A PROTEST FROM EKETAHUNA

(Per Press Association.) Eketahuna, December ,13

At a special meeting of the Eketa!huna Chamber of Commerce thus morning, it was resolved that this Chamber desires to record its most emphatic protest at the action of a few Pahiatua business and professional men at a meeting on Wednesday evening, as per Press Association report 01 yesterday, in endeavouring to create an impression abroad that the Government was favpnring Eketahuna for the Pongaroa mail service. Such is absolutely contrary to fact and is a grave injustice to the Government. The statement that a few big landowners on the Eketahuna-Pongaroa route influence the Government is absolutely unwarranted and supremely ridiculous. The Eketahuna route Serves more small settlers and townships and when a short stretch of road is metalled the route will he far superior to Pahiatua and offers greater” facilities 1 ' io' Poiigaroa 1 and intermediate districts..Pongaroa will get a close train connection on earlier principal mails from Wellington. Pahiatua is acting without consulting Pongaroa, of which a big majority favoured Eketahuna.”
