ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH.

A very successful function in aid of the manse renovation fund, and promoted by the Ladies’ Guild, assisted by the board of managers, was held in the Foresters’ Hall yesterday afternoon and evening. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. W. P. Kirkwood), in an appropriate speech, opened the proceedings in the afternoon. Thereafter, the ladies in charge of the Christmas Ire and tables, which were laden with articles, both useful and ornamental, as well as produce, confectionery, pot plants, and cut flowers, contributed by members and friends of the congregation, were soon busy disposing of the tempting goods. Tnero were a large number of investors in the ‘ Magic Well,” and all received an immediate dividend in the shape of an article of some kind brought from the deep by a bucket. The refreshment room was largely patronised, both in the afternoon and evening. An Exhibition Art Gallery, containing some 92 exhibits, received many visitors, who were as much amused as delighted with what they saw. Father Christmas, in the person of Mr. A. Patrick, suitable robed, was in attendance throughout, greatly adding to the enjoyment of the people, especially to the young lolk.

The following friends contributed items to an excellent musical programme:—Mesdames McNeely and Overbye, Misses Morison, Sangstar, M. Mackey, Messrs. Hale and Anderson. Miss Scott gave a humorous recitation in “braid Scotch,” to the amusement of the audience. The promoters are much gratified with the result, yielding as it will, a profit of about £24 after all expenses have been paid.
