In the House of Commons the Hon H. Samuels said that the proposal t' enable Ireland to reduce Customs war not vital. As a large number cf Liberals objected the Government thought fit to* meet them. Mr Chamberlain asked the Government to justify the principle whirl allowed the Irish Parliament to vary the surtax after the com!it ons for exemption, abatements anil income tax but prohibited varying the rates tax Messrs Lough, Murray, and MacDonald expressed dissatisfaction witl the Government’s decision. Mr Fisher’s amendment was rejected by 281 to 167. Mr Lloyd George announced that the committee stace on the Welsh Disestablishment Bill would be taken on Friday evening.
