PICTURE CENSORSHIP.
NOT TOO OPPRESSIVE
(Received 8.15 a.rn.) Sydney, November 25. The result of an interview between cinematograph managers and the;, Hon,. Mr Flowers, was that a compromise was reached regarding the proposed censorship. The Government accept the censorship exercised in London and New York, reserving the right to condemn a film even though it has passed those cities. The present regulations apply to locally-produced films, and not submitted in London and New York. The pictures exhibited in Sydney will be permitted in the country. The regulations apply to pictures shown in the country before being produced in the city. The pjriod of notice to be given of a programme has been reduced to six hours, instead of twenty-four. The Minister introduced a new regulation whereby he may authorise any film to be passed by a censorship recognised by him. Such film need not lie screened for the information of the police.
