Second Edition IN THE COURTS.
THE JUDGE ADAMANT. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, November 23. At the Supreme Court, Harold Jaruey Weston, aged 29, who was found guilty of tampering with a girl under four years, was described by Judge Chapman as a menace to the public, and sentenced him to seven years’ bard labour and a further term of five years’ reformative treatment. His Honor indicated plainly he would offer no encouragement to get the prisoner released before his term expired. DUE TO DEINK. Wellington, November 23. Two prisoners, who attributed their downfall to drink, were sentenced today. Thomas Dickson, who had pleaded guilty to detaining postal packets and four Charges of theft; was ordered six months’ reformative treatment. He was told by the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) that if he applied after some months for release, then the Prison Board might give him probation for theft. Harold Ketterer was sentenced to three years’ reformative treatment.
