A remarkable picture, the masterpiece of a famous Italian painter, is to bo the subject of an art union at Manaia shortly, and the ‘Witness’ gives the following particulars:— The picture is one of considerable value. and was painted as far back as 1693, by Calso Morale, one of the greatest artists of bis day. It was foi some time in the family of Count Walter Music Edle Von Mollenbruck. a member of the Austrian diplomatic service,-and through a relative of that family, to whom it was presented, i’ came into the hands of its presen* owner, it is a representation of the Madonna, painted on leather, and like all the great masterpieces, still retains all its original freshness and beauty. The picture is at present for safe keeping in the strong- ,- or>m of the Bank of New Zealand, Wellington, but previous to the drawing will be exhibited in one of the local shop win-j dows.
