Lord and Lady Islington leave .Wellington for Auckland to-morrotv. On Wednesday next a farewell garden party will he given at Government House, Auckland, and on the following Friday the citizens farewell their Excellencies. Lord and Lady Islington take passage by the Sydney steamer from Auckland on December 2nd. '■ - / . Mr. John Penny, who was the first chairman of the ’Eltham Dairy Factory Company, died a few days ago in Auckland. Mr. w' A. Parkinson, of Hawera, who has been on a trip to England and America, arrived in Auckland on Thursday, and will arrive in Hawera to-morrow. Mr. A. M. Pilcher, of the New Plymouth brancl’f of the Bank of New Zealand, has been advised of his transfer to the Stratford office of the bank. Mr. W. A. Hewitt, manager of the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., in company with Messrs. Riera and Hignett, of Mr. Newton King’s staff, left by mail train for Hawera this morning to attend the Hawera Show. The Archduchess Elizabeth of Austria, who recently renounced her rights as a member of the Imperial Family that she might accept a man of less than Royal rank as her husband, was married on 21st September, in Vienna, to Count George von Waldberg Lustenau Hohenems. The Emperor Francis Joseph and other members of the Imperial Family were present. Mr. H. E. Abraham, who for the past four years has been managing for Messrs. Abraham and Williams, at Levin, has resigned his position with the firm in order to take over the management of Mr. Newton King’s auctioneering business, Taranaki. During the whole of the time Mr. Abraham has been in Levin (states the ‘Chronicle’) the business of the firm has steadily developed until has reached its present proportions. Mr. Abraham lias taken a keen interest in the sporting life of the. district. He was captain of the Heatherlea Golf Clurb since its inception, and is a prominent tennis player. Mrs. Abraham has proved herself an enthusiastic wielder of the racquet, and in social matters has taken a leading part. She has, too, in many practical ways assisted the Church of England. It is understood that Mr. Abraham will take up his duties with Mr. Newton King on 15th December.
