Wellington, November 19. The harbourmaster at Karamea informed the Marine Department today that the Defender, which is trading between there and Wellington, went ashore yesterday on the North Spit. Nothing is stated as to the possibilities of the vessel floating off. The Defender is a steamer of 190 tons gross, and is in charge of Capta.n Jamieson. She is owned by the Westland Shipping Company. Napier, November 19.

The proposed harbour scheme for Napier advanced a stage further today, when the Harbour Board unanimously decided to approve Messrs Cullen and Keele’s (Australian engineers) report in regard to the inner harbour. The engineers submitted alternative proposals, for an Jnner and breakwater harbour schemes, and left the Board to . decide. The engineers, however, will be asked to express a definite opinion as to which scheme they recommend the Board, to adopt.
