A. AND P. MATTERS.
HAWERA SHOW. The entry list for the Egmont A. and P. Association’s Show which opens to-morrow at Hawera, are in excess of last year’s total, and set up a newrecord for the Society. The list is as follows, together with the figures for the last two years:—
To secure this result the responsible officials have rruade an enthusiastic effort. The Society’s members, therefore, while they may derive pleasure from the satisfactory prospects for this year’s Show, should not forget that great credit is due to their officials. In a district that is making rapid strides in connection with farming matters, an increased interest in the Society’s welfare and its animal Show is only a natural sequence. But undoubtedly the marked advancement and development generally in pastoral affairs throughout the district is in a measure due to the activities of the Association. That the outlook for the coming Show is so promising is a matter for congratulation for all concerned. An idea of the enterprise on the part of the executive committee may be gathered from the improvements made to ground fixtures during the past month or two in addition to the new features that figures on the schedule which have met with liberal support. Chief amongst these improvements is the building of new horse boxes on a more open scale and also oovered-in- bull-pens. The Society is in a flourishing condition, and 125 new members have been added during the year. The ring events will he particularly attractive, as some of the best of outside horses will be competing and the usual side-show element will be present in strong forces. All indications are of a promising order, and under favourable weather conditions this week’s carnival should easily surpass any held previously at Hawera. Stratford, as in the past, will turn out iu its might to be present at this popular fixture.
STRATFORD SHOW. Everything is now in splendid order for the Stratford Show on Wednesday and Thursday, 27th and 28th November. The new people’s grandstand will be out of the builder’s hands in the course of a day or two. This structure has been very favourably commented on for its architectural design and commodious seating capacity. The show grounds arc in fine condition, and all that is required to make the Show an unqualified success is a record entry list and fine weather. Entries continue to come in generously from exhibitors in the district and also from outside districts. The Association’s secretary will be installed in a tent on the Hawera show grounds on both days for the purpose of taking entries for the Straford Show. As the entry lists close on Thursday next, intending exhibitors who have not yet made their entries would be acting wisely to make their entries forthwith, thus obviating any chance of being left out, while at the same time exhibitors will bo assisting the secretary very materially by reason of preventing the usual last moment rush of entries.
