Mr. John Leydon returned to Stratford this morning from a trip to Auckland. Sir Joseph Ward visited the Bluff yesterday. He has postponed his departure for a week. The Revl B. Metson has received a unanimous “call” from the' Wanganui-. Primitive Methodist Church. At present ho is considering the offer. Mr. J. Masters left Stratford by the mail train this morning for Palmerston' North, where he will attend the meeting of the Wesleyan Method!, t Synod. Miss Ni.fca Tocker and Mr. Shanahan, of Hawera, were quietly married at tne Catholic Church, Stratfoid, tins manning, by tho Rev. Father Maples. Mrs. F. M. Marlow, of Stratford, became suddenly ill after spending tho evening at the pictures, and this morning was removed to the Hosp.tal, suffering from pneumonia. Mrs. Mary Pringle, relict of the late Alexander Pringle, died at the Hutt ~ (Wellington), on Friday. Deceased was in Tier 82nd year, and was one of the oldest settlers of the Hutt. Dr., 'Wohlmann, the Government ■ Balneologist at Rotorua, left Auckland by the Maheno yesterday for Sydney. He will be away on a year’s leave of absence in England, Dr. Wohlmann is accompanied by his wife and daugutoin Mr. P. C. Freeth contradicts the rumour that he intends taking over tlie 1 mdnagership of the Taihape News,’ and starts to-day for the scene of war at Huntly and Waihi in the interests of . the ‘New Zealand Times.’ The Rev. Father Treacy, who has been indisposed of late, left Stratford this morning for New Plymouth, where he will spend a ten days’ holiday by the. seaside. Miss Harding, q. relative of. the Rev. Father, has also been_ ill, and she will accompany him, invoking, too, the blessings of recuperative ozone from the o.cean.

(Alexander William Bock, ■ of Hokitikii, head of the local firm of Johnston and Co.; aged 60 years, died on 'a I Press"AsSbdiiMon telegram). Deceased was a prominent Citizen, and was formerly a member of most of the local bodies. He leaves a widow and family of one son and five daughters. Deceased was a resident of Hokitika for forty-six years. Mr. -John Colclough Thompson, after a protracted and painful illness, died at Feilding on Wednesday, at the agb of 72 years. He was a Borough Councillor for twenty years, a Justice of the Peace for a much longer period, and at one time a member of the fire brigade. The deceased gentleman leaves a widow and two daughters— Mrs. S. J. Quarrie, of Halcombe, and Mis. 1 ), L, Thompson, of Feilding—and one .son, Dr. Thompson. Deceased was an .uncle of Mr. J. H. Thompson, of Stratford. - 'Sir Joseph Ward explained to a pressman the objects of his trip to England, incidentally disposing of a good deal of speculative gossip regarding the matter. “I am going Home on a pleasure trip chiefly, and partly on business,” he said. “During my official life, though I visited England many times, I had no opportunity to attend to anything but purely qffi ial work, Now I am clear of responsibility of all kinds, and I am availing myself of the, chance to enjoy six months of comparative leisure, rest, and change. It. will be my first long holiday in an active life or 46 years. Yes; you can say .definitely that I‘will be back in New Zealand next May,” said Sir Joseph, when one of the many rumours regarding his plans was mentioned.
