PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY
(Per Press Association.) Wellington,! November 13. At the Presbyterian Assembly to-day the report of the committee on church life and work stated that the census returns of the Dominion showed a gratifying increase in the number of those who claimed a Presbyterian name. In the period 1806-1911, the Anglican Church had increased 12.4,4 per cent., Methodist 6.50, Roman Catholic 10.65, Baptist 12.93, and Presbyterian 15.26. Ultimately, the hie of both church and State depended on the home life of the people. Owing to a groat variety of causes, there was reason to fear that it was far from being what it once was. Even in Christian households family prayer was not as common as it ought to be.
THE THREE-FIFTHS MAJORITY. A deputation from the Now Zealand Alliance waited on the Assembly and urged the abolition of the three-fifths majority handicap. The following motion was passed:—“lhat this Assembly has heard with pleasure the delegates, and would thank thorn for their stimulating addresses. r ihe Assembly would gladly give its hearty co-opera-tion for the sake of bringing about a steady abolition of the liquor traffic.‘
