The fifth victim in Barker’s fire has succumbed. The Dundee whaler Scdusanta was wrecked in the Arctic, and its crew of fifteen were drowned. The National Life Association of America, has invited Australian riflemen to participate in next year’s international matches.
The Norwegian steamer Eva collided with the Spanish steamer Arena off lledax. The latter -sank in two minutes, and seventeen were drowned. A meeting of two hundred doctors resolved that Mr Lloyd-George’s recent proposals afforded the basis of a satisfactory temporary arrangement to co-operate in the Insurance Act. At the Empire Commission Lord Avebury introduced a deputation advocating the instituting of an Empire trade mark. The Commissioners were sympathetic. Several British firms have notified their desire to give evidence in opposition to the proposal.
Interest centres in the Chincsc-Mon-golian conference at Pekin, which will ho attended hy.500 notables, sitting at Chang-ohun, Manchuria. The principal object is to secure the cancellation of various Mongolian independence proclamations and bringing Mongolia under the Chinese Republic.
