SWIMMING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. Last night proved even too wet for the swimming enthusiasts, and the annual meeting proved abortive, only two or three persons attending. Annual Report. The annual report is as follows: “Notwithstanding the fact that last season was bad, climatically, your committee has pleasure in being able to place before the club a credit balance of £l2 13s lid, being £9 0s 7d brought forward from the preceding season, and £3 13s 4d the credit balance on the season’s working. We venture to say that this club is the strongest, financially, in Taranaki. This result was obtained by the energetic canvass for members for the club. The preceding season showed a record of 48 members, which is eclipsed by last season’s total of 59. o After holding a local official opening carnival, a one night carnival was held, which resulted in a loss of 4s 7d. A feature of the season was the club’s <*ood fortune in being presented by Mr. J. Masters with a cup for annual competition over six handicap distances. This worthy aefon will greatly benefit onr club members, who should very shortly be able to show the practical results attainable by this competition. Schoolboys’ Handicap champion shijis were to be held, but owing to the inclement weather, were postponed. It is hoped that arrangements will he made at an early date in the coming season to enable the successful inauguration of this necessary inducement to young swimmers. Taken altogether, under the bad conditions, the season was a successful one. The thanks of the club are due to Mi’. W. P. Kirkwood for tire fr*e use of a committee meeting room.”
