Some hundreds of names have been suggested to the Heme Affairs Department as suitable for the Australian federal Capital. One them is “Fishorvillo” j anotlier “Kookooburra,” another “Deakiuburg,” another “Maroomha,” anotlier “Waratah,” another “Parkes.” Sir (leorge R id. in a letter, expressed a preference for “Pacifica.” ft appeals to hi.it. “as the I least objectionable” of any that he can think of—musical, and appropriate. Its appropriateness rests, he says, “upon very broad grounds.” He does not want to claim “that it is an outwardly ideal name for the cap'tal.” “All I suggest is,” he adds, “that 1 have never heard of a name which has fewer objections to it.” The Minister says that he intends to give members lan early opportunity of considering i what the name of the Capital shall bo.
