Tims the ‘NZ. Times’: “Long hours, a vitiated atmosphere, and the incessant strain of business, are beginning to toll sorely on the tempers of members of Parliament, and of all whose vocation brings them within the grinding wheels of the Parliamentary system. There is a visible testiness ami impatience on the part of members. A sharp choleric note could be observed in yesterday’s proceedings, which were distinguished by at least two outbursts of strong political feelings, intensified by uncharitable personalities and the use of expressions which called for the intervention of the Speaker. In the aftornon Mr. Russell (Avon) characterised a remark of the member for Wairarapa (Mr Buchanan) as a piece of impertinence, and though the Speaker permitted the use of the word at the time, the incident led trt an acrimonious and undignified wrangle in the evening. Bitter thrusts were made across the door of the House, and it was obvious that members were weary and galled by the excessively long hours of business and debate.”
