FRIENDSHIP CONFERENCE.

A BETTER UNDERSTANDING. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) (Received 9.15 a.m.} London, November 1. The Anglo-German conference has concluded. Lord Courtney, who presided, said the English had learned to appreciate Germany’s greatness, while Germany was beginning to understand England better. Mr Oliver Lodge said it was mischievous and erroneous to suppose that Germany’s naval expansion was directed against England. It was a shame that a small minority in either country should foment artificial hatred. A permanent joint committee has been appointed to promote friendship between tho two countries.
