DOMINION TELEGRAMS.

BUILDERS IN CONFERENCE. (Per Press Association.) Dunedin, November 1. At the Builders’ Conference to-day a letter which had been sent to the Hawke’s Bay Association was considered. The letter stated that the Un-der-Secretary of the Public Works Department had insisted on the contractors for the erection of the post office insuring the building for the full period of. “maintenance” —in that case two months—and that the resident engineer contended that if the building were burned down during that period the contractor would he liable to reinstate it as a whole. The writer contended that contractors should not he liable for insurance after the building had passed out of their hands. After discussion it was decided to refer the matter to the executive for enquiry. The executive was empowered to take what action it deemed necssary in regard to the registration of the Builders’ Association. This concluded the business of the Conference.
