BOXING. , MAXWELL AGAIN DEFEATED. (Per Press Association.) Timaru, October 31, The drill shed, which is seated for 1800 people, had every seat occupied by spectators of the Hagerty (Timaru) v'. Maxwell (Hawera) fight of fifteen rounds, for a £SO purse, and many were turned away. Hagerty won easily on points from the first round. Maxwell fought pluckily, and took a lot of punishment. He w r as nearly blinded before the close. The onlookers thought that Hagerty could have finished the fight half-way through. In the preliminary amateur bout McGrath (Timaru) v. North (Dunedin), six three-minute rounds, McGrath got the verdict, but this was the occasion for some dissent. FOOTBALL. Wellington, October 31. The Council of the New Zealand Football Association met this evening. The question of matters pertaining to the Taranaki Football Association was fully discussed, and decision was deferred until, after a member of the council reports on the matter. The secretary was given authority to ask the Commonwealth Football Association if they are-prepared to play any matches in' New Zealand next season, should they complete arrangements for a tour to America.
