ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
MOTOR ACCIDENT. A. serious motor accident occurred on the Ukumara Hill ,on Monday (reports the ‘Patea Press’). A car driven by Mr. P, Thompson, of Wanganui, and containing four other occupants. was descending the hill, when Mr. Thompson, in essaying to put on the brake, placed his foot on tne accelerator by mistake, with the result that the car dashed off the road and capsized, throwing out the occupants. Besides the driver there were two other Maoris, Mrs. P. Thompson and an uncle, and Messrs. A. McFarlano and S. Edlin. All were more or less injured, Mr. McFarlane sustaining a severe scalp wound and sundry bruises. He was taken to the Wanganui Hospital, where be is progressin g-very well. Mrs Thompson was also taken to the hospital, to have her injuries attended to, but they were not of such a nature as to necessitate her remaining in the institution. Mr. Edlin injured an arm through coming in contact with the road fence. The motor car was considerably knocked about, the cost of repairs probably running into £SO.
A PATHETIC FATALITY. (Per Press Association.) Hawera, October 30. Jean McCracken, aged 22, met with an accident while cycling down a bill on Sunday, when she lost control of her machine. Her injuries sustained in the fall were at first not considered serious, but on Tuesday afternoon internal complications supervened, and she died to-day. A pathetic part of the occurrence Is that Miss McCracken was to have been married to-day.
