THE BROKEN MARTON DAM.

(Per Press Association.) , , Marion, October 26. Mr Laing Meason, consulting engineer to the Council, states that he made an inspection of the broken dam, but intended to make a fuller one when the water in the vicinity was dammed off. He had no doubt the cause of the trouble was at the point where the old pipes has been left in to drain off the water while the embankment was being constructed. Every precaution was taken at the time to concrete up these pipes, but with pressure and subsidence the water found a small leak underneath, which in turn caused the present break. He considered the necessary repairs could be carried out in about' three months, and that the damage was not»so serious as at first anticipated and could be repaired for about £BOO.
