DRIVING IN THE DARK. (Per Press Association.) Christchurch, October 22. • An inquest was held to-night touching the death of Mr. Douglas Johnston, who fell thirty feet over an embankment near Balmoral on Friday morning, and died at the hospital yesterday. Evidence went to show that deceased and a friend were driving in the dark in a gig, which mised the turn and ran over an embankment. A verdict of accidental death was returned. A FLAX WORKER’S DEATH. Napier, October 22. The-police have been informed that Peter Burden was found dead on the road near Waikare. Deceased was employed as a I flaxmill hand at Tutura. He purchased a supply of whisky before leaving the Waikare Hotel for his camp yesterday. When found ho was lying face downward in the .mud, and it is believed he fell and was suffocated. INQUEST ON JOHN WILDS. Timaru, October 22. At the inquest on John Wilds the old Deal boatman, medical evidence showed that he died from heart shock, not from drowning.
