TRAFALGAR DAY.
NAVY LEAGUE BANQUET. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) London, October 22. Mr. Mackenzie, Mr. McColl, and Mr. Taverner, spoke at the Navy League Trafalgar Day banquet. Sir George Reid proposed “The Immortal Memory of Nelson.” The time had come, he said, when Britain should he rc.ieved of the burden of the defence of the eastern, western, and southern waters. It was fair and reasonable to ask Britain to defend her own coasts and to take a large share in defending Imperial trade. He detailed the condition of the Australian army and ravy. and said that it would lie a sad day when tho sea called in vain to tho British race. THE PACIFIC FLEET. Melbourne, October 22. Speaking at the Trafalgar Day celebrations, Mr. Pearce urged the necessity for tho Mother Country and the Dominions acting together. With this object, the Federal Government was looking to New Zealand, asking her to join and make the fleet unit in the Pacific stronger and larger.
