NORTH MT. LYELL FIRE.
FIRE HAS THE UPPERHAND. (Received 9.30 a.m.) Hobart, October 21. Dense volumes of smoke are still issuing from the mine. The fire has got a fresh hold in the 700 ft. level, and is spreading. A helmetod party made another attempt to reach the bodies, but were driven back. No more attempts will be made until the situation has improved. Melbourne, October 21. The State Government has given £IOOO to the Lyell Relief Fund. FLOODING THE MINE. (Received 10.10 a.m.) Hobart, October 22.
