ATTEMPT ON ROOSEVELT.
CAMPAIGN TO BE ABANDONED. "GOSH! SHOT AGAIN! ; ' (Received 16, 12.10 p.m.) Chicago, October 15. Mr. Roosevelt was taken to tho hospital hero, arriving by special train. The surgeons have not extracted tho bullet yet. It is deeply embedded in the wall of the chest,'but tho lungs were not penetrated, and tho patient's condition Is normal. Tiie operation was deferred ponding further investigation. Letters found on the assailant indicate that he believed himself to be an instrument of the Almighty to remove Roosevelt. The latter's political campaign will have to be abandoned, absolute rest being prescribed. As he descended from the train, snapshottors took him bv flashlight. "Gosh! Shot again!" was his jovial comment. SCHRANK PLEADS GUILTY. (Received 1.25 p.m.) New York, October 15. At Milwaukee, Schrank appeared before the Court charged with attempting to kill Mr Roosevelt. He pleaded guilty and asked for a speedy trial. The Judge expressed the belief that there was a possibility of the bullet being poisoned, but the doctors disbelieve the suggestion.
