It was not proved that the sugar industry could be carried on in the tropics with whites. He considered there was no chance of beet sugar endangering .the can© sugar industry. Lord Denman, Governor-General of the Commonwealth, reviewed and was entertained at luncheon with the Canadian cadets. In a speech he said that Canada and Australia were keenly" interested in the maintenance of British power in the Pacific. Within a few years an Australian, and possibly an Australasian fleet and a Canadian fleet,would be ready to co-operate with the British fleet in any emergency arising hi order to maintain the British position in the Pacific.
