The collision was due to the absence ot' lights. Ottawa, October 3. A train jumped the track at the Bay of Quinte, Ontario, and fell over an embankment. A woman was killed, and many were injured. London, October 3. Madame Melba, interviewed in London, declared that the Australians were crazy for grand opera. Pekin, October 3. Judge Pigott, former Chief Justice at Hongkong, has been appointed legal adviser to Yuau-Sbi-Kai. London, October 3. Five large Lancashire cotton mills have amalgamated, with a capital of a million and a half. French financiers financed the scheme. Washington, October 3. Witnesses at the Senate Committee, investigating the campaign funds, swore that John Archbpld, Pierpont Morgan, George Gould, Frick and other capitalists contributed £20,000 to ouch campaign fund in 1904. There is no record that Roosevelt ever returned these sums.
