OUR SENIOR CADETS.

MRS. GODLEY’S SCHEME LAUNCHED.

The squally weather and heavy lain of vesterday afternoon prevented there being a large attendance at the Borough Council Chambers, when a meeting of ladies was held to Munich that very excellent scheme initiated by Mrs. Godloy, wliich is to provide ladies’ prizes for the senior cadet companies all over the Dominion. Jno ladies, however, who were present were enthusiastic, and there is Intle doubt that the movement will receive tho hearty support generally of tlie ladies of Stratford. , The Mayor, who presided, first rent, tho letter*written by the wife of General Godley, which has already been published in the columns of the “Stratford Evening Post In speaking of the scheme generally, Mr Kirkwood said that it was a good one, and he would like to see it prove successful in Stratford, if only for the reason that it would provide a very effective answer to those people who think there should he no military training at all. As the subscriptions ranged from such a small amount as a shilling upwards, there should ho vciy liberal response to Mrs. Godley s appeal. It should be understood that the smallest sum was welcome, as web as the largest. Evidently Mrs. Godley intended to second the spirited endeavour of her husband,.General Godley to make tho Territorial forces a success throughout New Zealand, and they in Stratford would do all they could to assist. Mr. Kirkwood mentioned that Mrs. Crawshaw had consented to take a prominent part in tiio local movement, and suggested that a ladies’ committee be formed, the members of which should do a house-to-house canvass, the Borough for this purpose to be divided into three sections —the district south of Victoria Bridge, and tho districts east and west of tho railway lino hut north ol tho ’-ridge. . An informal discussion follovyod, during which a collection on tho lines of a Hospital Saturday were suggested. Captain Lainpen thought a patriotic song, on tho lines of that whose refrain rims “Pay, pay, pay,” would, if sung at the performance of “Our Regiment,” bring in tho “shekels.” Collecting boolvs were issued to those ladies present, and the collecting will commence straight away. All ladies desirous c.f helping the movement are requested .to communicate with Mrs W. J. Crawshaw. AT do nations will be daily' acknowledged in tho columns of the “Stratford Evening Post.”
