Mr Newton, King’s weekly butter and cheese report from Messrs R, and W. Davidson, Ltd., of London and Glasgow, under date, 22-8-12, is as under :
Our markets have again been rather dull, prices receding about 2s per cwt. Choicest is comparatively scarce, and we do not think that prices for this grade will give way very much. Of course it must not be overlooked that the quantity of secondary butters on the market at the moment ,is very heavy, and it is just possible that these accumulations may have an adverse effect on choicest qualities. Colonial supplies were expected, to commence very early this season,. but (the shipments advised iso far are only trifling. Advices from Copenhagen state that the market there is dull, and the quotation to-day has been declared uhchaifg'ed. b ■ Danish and Swedish.—-Tile total arrivals thisav(Q?k show ajjiccrqaso of 471 casks. Demand is very slow, and business is only possible at many shillings below the official rates. Irish Creamery.—Demand exceptionally poor during the past week, and prices again have a somewhat easier tendency. We quote fancy salted Il ls to 115 s, exceptionally 116 s, unsalted 116 s to 117 s, exceptionally 118 s. There is still a considerable quantity of creamery coming forward showing very poor quality, and these goods are very difficult to sell ,although agents are prepared to accept very low prices—102s up to 108 s. Colonial Butter. —Australian : There has been one small arrival this week by the Ayrshire of 468 boxes, but her goods will not be available in time for this week’s trade.
