O.D. TIMES AND STAFF. (Per Press Association.) Dunedin, October 1. It is understood that the movement hy reporters to secure a better scale of salaries throughout the Dominion has resulted locally in the Times Company giving their staff two months’ notice that their engagements are all to he terminated. STEAMER HANAU NOT DAMAGED. Wellington, October 1. Gollin and Co. have received advice from London that the steamer Hanau is not damaged, and is proceeding en route to Australia. CLIFFS ON THE SUMNER ROAD. Christchurch, October 1: The danger of falls of rocks from the cliffs of the Sumner Road were again exemplified to-day, when tram and road traffic was interrupted for some hours by the fall of some hundreds of tons. Fortunately the,rock came down early in the morning when no traffic was passing. DECREASING RACING DAYS. Dunedin, October 1. The Presbytery to-day decided to petition Parliament to decrease the mmrber of racing days. The Presbytery nominated as Moderator of the General Assembly next year, the Rev. W. McOara, of Kaikoura. ANXIETY FOR THE AWANUI. Gisborne, October 1. Some anx'ety is being occasioned in local shipping circles respecting the safety of the schooner Awanui (Captain Barnes), which left Gisborne for Mercury Bay in company with the ketch Coronation at 7 a.m. on September 9. On Wednesday last the Coronation put into Tolago Bay for stores, and reported that both vessels had been blown to sea, and the Coronation had parted company with the Awanui on September 22. No word has been heard of the Awanui. SEARCH FOR A DUNEDIN LADY. Dunedin, October 1. A young lady who rece’ved a great mental shock recently managed to get away from her home in Cumberland street North on Saturday. She left a note stating that she was going hy the second express on route for Wellington. A search was made in the train, and it is certain that she never got to Wellington. Fears are entertained for her safety, considering her very low state of health. She was about sft fin in height, had a mass of dark brown hair, brown eyes, and two small moles on her face.
