The Lake Coleridge Sirike. Replying to Mr. Davey, the Minister for Public Works said that he intended sending an officer either to-day or to-morrow to Lake Coleridge works to report on the conditions prevailing there. Widows’ Pensions. The Widows’ Pensions Act Amendment Bill was read a first time. Mr. Fisher explained that the Bui provided for the wives and inmates ol mental hospitals, they now being practically widows, an alteration of the date on which the pension year commences, and for children born out of New Zealand during the temporary absence of their parents. The alterations were estimated to cost about £SOOO yearly. in Memoriam. The Prime Minister moved, in connection with the death of the late Mr. R. M. Houston-, that the House record its high sense of the faithful services rendered by the late Mr. Houston, and tenders its sympathy to his family and relatives. Mr. G. W. Russell seconded tne motion. . . On the motion of the Prime Minister the House adjourned till 7.30 as a mark of respect for the deceased politician.
