SPORTING.

AUSTRALIAN RACING. Sydney, September 30. Yarrum, Cadonia, IMaltchester, Aurifer, Vanquisher and Aurofodina have been scratched for the Epsom Handicap. Lady Medallist has gone to Caulfield and has been scratched for all engagements at Randwick. (Notes by “Cicero.”) The one-day meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club takes place to-mor-row. Punters had all the worst of matters over the Wanganui and Avondale meetings. The sentence passed on W. Young by the Wanganui stewards, although lenient, should have a beneficial result. “Skipper” Ryan, who is now riding for the Hon. Ormond, was severely cautioned by the stewards after the same event. There was a lot of money for Patronale in New Plymouth last Thursday. The best has not been seen of this gelding. Fred Tilley has seventeen horses in work at Fordell just now. Included in the’ number is a full brother to Incuru (Maniapoto—Kohina), who is reputed to bo very fast, i The Coronet, Lady of the Lake colt, a half brother to St. Toney and Makara,' will probably be bought by Mr J, Harle, in whose colours Makara ■races. Labor Day got cast in her box on the eve of the Wanganui fixture. Hence the Soult filly’s non appearance at the meeting. Postillion was backed by his party last Thursday, as if the race was a foregone conclusion. I would advise punters not to discard Advance’s son yet awhile. Sara Pan was very unlucky to lose on Saturday. This horse should be worth remembering at Waverley. Fred Tilley had no less than eight horses at Wanganui, but the popular Fordell trainer failed to score a win. Moonbria, the half brother to the great Noctuiform, is reported to have run a mile at Hastings recently in 1.41 J a bad gallop for a maiden. Malaphin, ryho won a double at the recent Taranaki Hunt Club’s meeting, is a half brother to those successful steeplechasers Muscatel and Sultana. He is said to be full of promise. Equitas, who carried the confidence of her party, ran a great race in the concluding event at Wanganui. Had the going been less holding, Advance’s daughter would have won easily. This mare will be “cherry ripe” at Wellington. The Hawke’s Bay Club have secured first-class acceptances, and a good day’s sport should eventuate. Strathmoira and Bravest, who have winning form, and Faunus, who hails from Karamu, are well placed in the Hack Hurdles. In the Flaxmere Hack, Multiply is opp ose bd aymlG? hvshrdluetaoi aoi ■posed by a moderate lot. The Guineas will not be as good a race as this Club deserve. Bon Reve is classed by good judges as a first-class colt. Glade, who will carry the all cerise of Karamu, was very fast as a two-year-old. The Hastings Stake should provide an interesting race. Merry Roc, who won at Avondale, is remarkably smart, and will have the additional advantage of having had a race in public. Day Ely (Birkenhead—Eos) and Lyrique (Birkenhead—Lyrebird) will represent the Hon. J. D. Ormond. Both are said to be smart, and Culture (Bonoform Culroy), a half sister to the brilliant Culprit, has a private reputation. The Spring Handicap should prove whether Mangaroa has -a chance in the New Zealand Cup. Sir Tristram, with 7.12, is very well handicapped in this event. Coolbeggan (not “Coolbeggar,” please), and Peary should provide an interesting race in the Waipatu Hack. The Final will introduce once more that great gelding, Bobrikoff, who will probably bo short of a gallop or two. Allurement and Outward appear to be nicely handicapped.
