Sydney, September 26. In the case where the owner of the pony Ladylike is claiming £SOOO damages from Mr John A\ renn for alleged libel and detention of the pony, the trainer of Ladylike admitted that he had been disqualified over twenty times, giving as a reason that he done what owners had told him to do. Questioned about a race in which three had started and all pulled up and walked home, he said it looked as if all had received instructions not to win. WANGANUI RACES.
The following concludes our report of the first day’s racing:—
Ohehu Hack Hurdles, of 150 sows; one mile and three-quarters.—Bollin, 10.0, 1; Sandy Paul, 9.2, 2; Coronetted, 10.8, 3. Waterworks 10.0, Hawick 9.13, Darby Paul 9.8, and Seaman 9.0, also started. Darby Paul finished first, but was disqualified, and the r’der (F. Jones) sent up for twelve months. Won by a length. Time, 3 min 21 1 -ssec. Gonville Hack Hurdle Handicap, of 110 sovs; one mile and five furlongs.— Silver Oluse, 10.13, 1; Fashion Plate, 10.5, 2; Timothy, 9.0, 3. To Roti 0.12, St. Felix 9.7, Seawind 9.0, Aviatrix 9.0, and Tollier 9.0, also• started. Won by inches. Time, 3min 7 2-ssec. Putiki Hack Handicap, of 110 sovs; six furlongs.—Aratiatia, 7.4, 1; St. Helena, 7.1, 2; Alluar, 7.-1, 3. Avaunco 8.2, Sanguinary 8.2, Distinction 8.2, Sampan 8.1, Ngakau 7.10, Gaul too 7.9, Semaphore 7.9, Postillion 7.5, Silver Rose 7,2, Resonant 7.0, also started. Won by a neck. Time, Imin 17 4-sscc. Spring Handicap, of 150 sovs; one mile.—Obligant, 6.12, 1; Con the Shaughraun, 7.2, 2; Ladrone, 7.2, 3: Lady Lucy 9.0, Mendip 8.2, Sandstream 8.0, Lady Mcnsclrkoff 7.13, Ngatimaru 7.11, Coromandel 7.10, Mungo roa 7.8, Royal Marine 7.5, Kilrain 7.4, Aloha 7.1, Mallard 6.10, and Lady Kilcheran 6.9, also started. AVon by a length. Time, Imin 16 l-ssec.
“Motnroa” in the News writes:— “The disqualification of Darby Paul caused great dissatisfaction’, besides robbing Taranaki supporters of a good heap of money. A sum -of £14,705 went through the tote at Wanganui yesterday, compared to £13,710 on the first day last spring meeting.
