DAFFODIL SHOW.

STRATI-OR!) HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. The indefatigable efforts of the officers of the Stratford Horticultural Society resulted in a splendid little display of blooms in the Foresters’ Hall yesterday and last night. Of the quality of the '.exhibits,, no one is more fully qualified to spool: than the judge, Mr C. Goodson, of Hawcra. In conversation with a reporter jjjof the “Stratford Evening Post,” Mr Goodson said:—“They’re very nice blooms, well grown for the time Of year. It’s marvellous how you’ve got them so good, hut it’s a pity that you’ve held the Show so late, as, only a. little while before, you would have had better blooms. That ‘Emperor ,exhibited by Mrs Arden, is as. good as anything I’ve ever seen; I don’t think I’ve seen anything better, Yes, those spring blooms are marvellous for thp time of year.” •Mr Cato’s “Glory of Leidon,” Mrs Reira’s “Sir Watkin,” and several of Mr C. J. Backhouse’s exhibits came in for special praise. Mr Goodson pointed out that some of the blooms might have been better staged; they should have been made

to stand hack in the glasses instead of drooping forward. There were other exhibits that came in for mention, especially t[ie dainty spray which, in company with one of a rather heavy design, won the first prize. The comment on the decorated mantle-piece was “very pretty indeed,” while the basket decorated mainly with daffodils was pronounced as “very well done, light and airy, and just enough flowers to attain the prettiest effect.”

Much of the success- of the Show Is due to the hard work put in by the Committee, the President and the Secretary. Mr P, Thomson has proved a very worthy president, and only the exhibitors, and those intimately associated with the Show, know the immense amount of time and labour he has given to the Spring Show. Mr W. S. Cato proved as hard working, and as enthusiastic as ever, and it is only to.be regretted that the Society does not get from the general public more encouragement and a wider patronage.
