THE WOOL MARKET

Boston, September 21. A commercial bulletin asserts that the basic prices of wool are certain to rise in the near future. Heavier buying is anticipated in the United States. Wool men are awaiting the London auctions with great interest. THE LONDON MARKETS. London, September 21. Sheep.—Canterbury, medium, 4fd; Southland, 4 9-16 d ; North Island 4|d : best brands, 4 9-16 d ; New Zealand' ewes, 4 l-16d; Australian, light, 4Jd, ewos, 4Jd; South American, heavy, -I gel. Lamb, Canterbury, light, s|d. Beef.—New Zealand hindquarters, 3£d; South American frozen forequarters, 3 l-16d; hindquarters 3Jd; the rest unchanged. Rabbits.—Active and firm. Importers are highly pleased with their excellent condition. DUNEDIN MARKETS. There was a fair yarding of sheep at Burnsido last Wednesday, the number penned being 3093, which included some fairly good animals. Values at the commencement of the sale were about equal to last week's rates, but as the sale progressed a firming tendency became apparent, with the result that prices went up Is 6d per head, the last sale of the day showing an increase of about 2s per head. Extra- prime wethers made from 27s 6:1 to 31s 9d per head, and prime ewes fnom 2os 9d to 27s 3d. There were only three of last season's lambs penned, and those sold at 19s 6d per head. One hundred and sixty-seven cattle were yarded, and the quality oif the whole was very good, owing, doubtless, to the splendid weather being experienced. There was good competition, although prices were slightly weaker than was the case last week, the reduction probably equalling Is per 10011). Prime bullocks made from £ls 15s to £2O 7s (kl, and heifers up to £l4 7s 6d. There were only 39 porkers and baconers penned, and these proved quite unequal to the demand, soiling at up to 7}-d per lb.
