Second Edition DIED BESIDE THE BOTTLE.
(Per Press Association.) Invercargill, September 23. On Sunday "evening one poiice were informed that a man was lying on Point Road, helplessly drank. They found him in a serious condition, death occurring before medical aid arrived. Empty brandy and whisky bottles lay beside the body.
Papers indicate that the deceased's name was Alexander Lander, and that! lie has friends in New South Wales. i
THE WAIHI COMPANY'S NOTICE o WORK TO PROCEED.

' Waihi, September 23. An important announcement is made by the vVaihi Company in to-day's "Daily Telegraph. 1 ' The company gives special notice to each and every contractor whose contracts with the company on and above the 1000 feet level are still subsisting and not completed, that the mine will be opened for ordinary work on Wednesday, October 2nd, at 8 a.m., and that they are required at such time and place to continue work under their contract, failing which the company will not wait any longer for the performance of the work, and the contract will be cancelled so that other men may be employed to carry on the work of the mine. The advertisement is signed by Mr. Barry, the Superintendent.
