Owing to the heavy rain, the golf championship meeting could not be continued to-day. The weather is now clearing, and the semi-finals of the championships will he played to-morrow and the finals on Monday. LAWN TENNIS. Christchurch, September 20. The Canterbury Tennis Association td-night decided to take steps to promote a Bill' to allow a charge to be made for admission to the grounds on Hagley Park. It also decided to guarantee £4O for the test matches with the English tennis team. FOOTBALL. MESSENGER’S RETIREMENT. Sydney, September 10. Messenger has definitely announced his retirement from football on business considerations. SWIMMING.
