News has been received here that the approximate movements of the ships of the Australian Squadron will be as follows : —Drake leave Sydney, October 29, arrive Melbourne, October 31, leave Melbourne either November 11 or a few days later for New Zealand (Milford Sound, Picton, Wellington and Auckland), return to Sydney the middle of December. Cambrian, leave Sydney for Hobart, October 10, join flagship at Melbourne, October 30, ac- ' company flagship to Now Zealand and return to Sydney before the Drake sails for England. Psyche will go to 'Adelaide on September 18 and join the flagship at Melbourne on October 31st, remain there November and December, thence go to Sydney and Hobart, remaining at Hobart probably unti March. 1
THE STAR OF CANADA. Gisborne, September 19. The Star of Canada case was adjourned after hearing the evidence of Captains Hart and Plunket until tomorrow. A QUESTION OF SENIORITY. Wellington, September 20. For a long time past, a controversy has been going on between Captain Frandi, of the Senior Cadets, and the Defence Department, the question in dispute being the right to seniority over another officer. Captain Frandi considered he had been slighted, and resigned. The matter was referred to onco or twice in Parliament. Cap tain Frandi has now written to General Godley, stating he had been carried away find had taken a course that may ha.ye caused some difficulty in carrying out and developing the idea: of the .Defence Department. He fully recognised*" that it was his duty to accept the Commandant's ruling, and is satisfied there can have been no question of favouritism on his part. Captain Frandi now withdraws his resignation, and it is understood he will be permitted to resume duty.
