COMMERCIAL.
The following is Mr Newton] King’s
weekly butter ami choose report from Messrs It. and W. Davidson, Ltd., of London and Glasgow, under date September 14th, 1912: BUTTER. The market 'this week lias been scarcely so active, the high prices now ruling causing buyers to operate very cautiously. The holidays throughout England have also had a little to do with the quieter feeling which now prevails. The weather during the past week has been very cold and rainy, but there is still an abundance of grass all over the country, so that home production continues large. Yesterday’s Copenhagen wire states that I the market there was very firm, and ; the quotation to-day has been declared j unchanged. Danish and Swedish.—Arrivals are) down 1025 casks. There has been a fairly steady market, with an advance of 3s to 4s per cwt. Stocks of choicest quality are fairly well cleared; to-day’s | quotations 130 s to 131 s. Siberian.—Arrivals this week are not nearly as large, being under 30,000 casks. „ The demand has been some-i what quiet, and prices generally remain I unchanged from last week, strictly ) choicest being obtainable at 106 s to ! 108 s, exceptionally 110 s, finest 102 s I to 104 s, with secondary at 98s to 100 s.; Telegrams from Siberia indicate that the market there continues very firm.
French.—There is no further change to report in the market. The recent advance has curtailed the sale, and. the market is distinctly quiet. Prices remain unchanged—extra mild 122 s to 1265, finest 118 s to 120 s, good to* fine 112 s to 116 s, inferior 104 s to 110 s, Paris baskets 116 s to 1265.
Irish Creamery.-—Fancy quality con-j | tinuos to meet with a good active dc-j j mand, and prices for the week show j j further .advance of 2s to 3s per cwt. ; I The higher prices now being askedi may have the effect of curtailing the j demand. We quote fancy salted i to 120 s, unsalted 120 s to 121 s, with . occasionally a shilling extra being made for something particularly fine. Secondary qualities are still very difficult to move, and prices continue irregular at 100 s to 106 s. Colonial.—Australian: Arrivals this week are somewhat larger, totaling 1 about 10,000 boxes. There has been some little improvement in the demand during the past week, and any choicest salted available commands 110 s to Ills; secondary descriptions continue to be rather slow, and may be quoted 102 s, 10Is, up to 106 s. T T n-| salted is very scarce; any choicest on offer can readily command 112 s to Ills, up to exceptionally 116 s. New
Zealand; There has been no arrival nominal value ! ISs. CHEESE.
New Zealand.—Tlie market lias a slightly better tone, although prices can hardly bo quoted higher—choicest white GGs, choicest coloured 07s. Canadian.— The spot market is slightly firmer—choicest white 03s to (its, with coloured at Gss to GGs. The make in Canada shows a considerable shortage as compared with last year. Total shipment of cheese since May Ist luis year up to July 21th was 022,798 boxes, as compared with 707,-j 301 boxes for the same period last | year.
