IN A GALE.

(Per Press Association.) Auckland, September 10

The Northern Co.'s steamer, Claymore, encountered a terrific sea on the voyage Waitara to Onehunga. Off Tirua Point battling against a northwest gale mountainous seas swept over her. After calling at Kawhia, the Claymore encountered another gale and was swept by seas which did a good deal of damage on deck. The vessel was in great clanger of being driven ashore. A casualty was only averted by (.rood seamanship, and the untiring efforts of the officers and crew.
